Here are a few tips for incorporating props in your next photo session.

1. Avoid trends.

While you might have recently seen a few photos on social media incorporating a specific item, try not to use something that will not look dated in 20 years. Classic is better, and there are many fun options.

2. Be realistic when considering a photo session theme.

It would be best to decide on one you can find decorations for. If you want to use a seasonal theme, try and source things in that season. Before deciding to remake your favorite movie scene, think twice about finding suitable outfits for everyone in the photo. 

3. Size matters.

Some larger props work well in photo sessions, such as using your grandpa's farm tractor as a background. However, some larger props can remove the photograph's beauty. Ensure what you bring enhances the image and doesn't take the spotlight.

4. Make it meaningful.

If your child has a favorite stuffed animal or if you have a musical instrument that you treasure, try and incorporate it. This way, your portraits will give you and your family more meaning.

Make the current season work to your advantage by using what's available. Leaves in the fall make fantastic additions; you don't need to go to the store for some.
